Message to Our Students
Dear All,
I was thinking this morning about some of my snow bird students who go up north in the summers and come back for our lovely fall/winter seasons. They regularly email me about their salsa up north and how they can't wait to get back to us for instruction and I am grateful. Grateful for our students who consistently show me their kindness, willingness to try ,and excitement for learning dance and spending time with us. We love you all!
Over the last three months,we have taught lessons, danced, practiced, and completed some amazing events that had us so happy we were in tears! National Dance Day this year was off the charts spectacular, but not because of the $ or numbers that showed but because of the people involved. I was humbled to be the co-chair of National Dance Day with Jennifer Rosoff at the helm. We also performed at the Grande Jete Recital, Openwater Church, for Gus and Diana's fundraiser for The Elks, at that famed and talented dancer Debra Loran's B-day Party, and enjoyed our time at the Reagan Dinner, listening to the Governor of our great state speak. The highlight of the last few months was Christmas in July with Veterans of our great country. Men who have not stood up from their wheel chair in years stood up and danced! Don't forget to check out our Photo Gallery.
During this Hispanic Heritage month (Sept 15 - Oct 15), voting in November, the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Christmas Holiday, and New Years, make sure to give thanks to our Creator in heaven, who allows us to live in a country of diversity in peace and still stands for individual freedom. We are all so blessed.
As you dance, try to focus on the fact that because you are in the world, you do not have to be of the world. Sometimes this means not going to a certain event but instead supporting a charity or doing a good deed (even if no one is watching!). Try to be an example of goodness and kindness everywhere you go, even if you are the only one trying! You will be blessed for it.
Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year To You All. God Bless You and thank you for spending time with Dancing With Grace. We hope to see you at our Annual Christmas Party on December 19, 2012 at The Fox Jazz Cafe.
Sincerely, Grace, Hugo, & Roberto

Grace’s Salsa Tips
Tip #1: Flip-Flop: At an event I recently went to I saw an AMAZING dancer dancing in flip-flops and I started cracking up. I wasn't laughing to make fun of him but because it seemed so odd to see someone dancing in flip-flops in a dance studio. The girl almost stepped on his flip flop which could have caused a major accident. Dancers, unless you are at the beach, try to avoid dancing in any shoe that flips or flops to avoid accidents.

Tip #2: Dance Snobs: I think I have figured it out! I hear all of the time "I dont like going to that social because its full of dance snobs or cliques". After going to a dance social labeled this way and not being asked to dance by anyone who did not already know me, I figured it out. I think people dance with those they know because its most comfortable; many people are afraid. Give people the benefit of the doubt and dont call them snobs. If they are NOT asking and they are snobs, what does that make you? Are you asking? If not, who is the snob then? Give people the benefit of the doubt and try asking someone new to dance the next time you go out! |

We here at Dancing With Grace dance for a reason. A group of professional dancers, dance students, nurses, doctors, administrators and volunteers from the community got together to provide Christmas in July for the Veterans: we decorated (bravo to the tree gals!), we had DJ Willie play Christian salsa music videos, we performed, served, danced, laughed, taught, and danced with each soldier. They all received trophies or their Dancer Dog Tags! Wheel chairs were vehicles to a fun dance party. We appreciate all of our Veterans and are blessed to help the great warriors of the United States of America. Check out our pictures and join us next year (sign up for our newsletter by clicking here.

Testimonials about our instruction and emails I received about this article:
My name is B and I attended the Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced level workshops that you were gracious enough to give at the University of Tampa this past weekend. I have lived in Tampa all of my life and have been dancing salsa for just shy of 10 years. Salsa is what I call my long lost love. Growing up in a family that has no Latin background and little of the culture, I spent my childhood mesmerized by what I called the "bongo beat", only to learn later in my twenties that it had a name -and that was Salsa. Since then Salsa has become and always will be very dear to my heart as it is something that I have loved all of my life but was introduced to it only a few years ago.
I started learning here in Tampa and have been blessed to grow enough in it to dance socially. In the beginning, dancing was so enjoyable and I felt as though I was finally in place where I belonged. It was what I thought was an excellent way to meet others and really participate in what most lyrics in salsa encourage- the celebration of life, freedom and loved ones. A few years ago, however, the vibe in Tampa changed and it became more of a "show down" than it was just enjoyment of the music and the dance. For me, where I used to be a very liberated dancer, I became very self conscious because it seemed that I was not "eligible" to dance with anyone unless I danced at a certain level. What was once enjoyable became extremely intimidating and it started to show in my dancing. For that reason, it has been almost 5 years since I have danced socially and it has been such a sore spot because salsa is such a part of me that I have had to ignore a huge part of who I am for so long.
Coming to your workshop was the first time in a long time . I must tell you that it was HUGELY REFRESHING not only to be back in the rapture of salsa but to hear you speak of modesty. In your class, I instantly felt at home and that I did not have to be ashamed to let salsa manifest in me the way God designed. Before your class, I had convinced myself that I was not "good enough" to dance salsa because I didn't dance at the level of other dancers. It was such a blessing to learn from you and be reminded that God's goodness is in everything and He placed you and your team in my path to go back to doing one of the many I know is in my heart...Salsa. Thank you for your presence, your blessing of reminded modesty and encouragement. If more instructors placed emphasis on modesty and the true essence of Salsa, multitudes of more people would have the chance to experience and know just how truly wonderful salsa is. Thank you for inspiring me to come back out of my shell and go back to doing what I love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
B
____________________________________________________________________
Thank you for this wonderful and reassuring article. My sister and I have been crucified twice over for dancing a slow dance on her wedding day. Long story short...I was on the board of my church and the day we slow danced (more for pictures then anything else) we got hammered with sermon after sermon about the Holiness of God, with direct content taken from the wedding as examples of unholiness and how God’s children should be set apart. After a month and a half we decided to leave because we felt abused from the whole thing. It was terrible. If only people would stop trying to be so legalistic and let the Spirit of God do the work, churches would have more people saved. Instead, they make people into hypocrites and liars because simply to fit the role of a christian and be accepted.
Anyway, thank you. This really encouraged me! I knew we weren’t the only ones that felt the same way about dance being a good thing.
Blessings,
ADT

Dear Grace,
Wow! I am convinced that you have a mission from God. He places each one of us in strategic places to reach out to individuals that otherwise would not hear of Him. You are destined for something big and many will join in. What a strategic tool! God goes beyond our imagination. Just trust Him and let's continue to promote, advertise, invite, spread the word. This is big and will be huge. All the glory goes to Him. Yesssssss!

Hi Grace-
I loved your article on dancing. I grew up being told it was a sin…so I was prohibited from dancing. So guess what I wanted to do most of my life? Yep!
BTW…Is there a sinful form of dancing?…of course. And there is a sinful form of eating, driving cars, watching TV, recreating etc.
I loved your take on the issue. Thanks for sharing what you’ve learned and experienced.
As a Baptist Minister, and Christian radio Talk show host I now enjoy dancing with my wife…and I DON’T CARE anymore what the legalists say.
Neil
PS I’m not much of a dancer…but it’s fun, and I hate the fact that the enemy tried to steal it from God’s people. Well, I am committed to taking it back!
Testimonial: It was nice to meet teachers that believe in the Lord and arent afraid to tell people whats not appropriate for us to be doing on the floor. Most people dont want to hear it, but it does need to be said. Its refreshing to see teachers that care about my spiritual well being and teachers that pray for us when we arent around. I dont pray much, but I sure did appreciate it.
