2. Tuesdays at the Promenade: Performance/Choreography Class
All Classes at the Promenade are $10 Each Unless Otherwise Stated
August 2007 Schedule
- 7-8 p.m. Beginner Salsa: Learn important foundational salsa basics! Practice makes perfect. Don't be afraid to take this class over and over again until you are comfortable and you can then move into the 8-9 pm Salsa Improvers Class!
- 7-8 p.m. Performance Class: Learn a DWG Intermediate Advanced Salsa choreography. This class will continue through December 2007. You are not required to take all the classes but if you want to learn it and get good take as many as you can! Students will also get the opportunity to perform this at one of DWG's Venues for charity! Have fun and do a good deed for others! $10 each
- 8-9 p.m. Salsa Improvers: Beginner-Int Patterns. Even if you are an intermediate-advanced dancer this class can help you with beginner-intermediate patterns that you may not know. Not all patterns have to be intense, long or complicated. Sometimes the uncomplicated patterns are the most fun.
- 8-9 p.m. Combination Class: Feel like moving? Take our combination class that will help you understand the secrets to keeping your partner close during your dance together. FYI: You must know a cross body lead with a turn and how to lead it to take this class. Intermediate/Advance Students Only.
Dress Code:
Casual, comfortable sweats or yoga pants, (preferably) salsa practice shoes (for turns and spins on a wooden dance floor). If you don't have salsa shoes, you can wear your evening dance shoes. Tennis shoes will inhibit your spins and may ruin your knees over time. You can go to the DWG Store to see if you find something you like or go online and check out shoes like Supadance or International. They can get pricy but make a world of difference when you dance.
Check out Grace's Shoe Clues Chapter in her Salsa With Grace Instructional Video so she can explain why you need good dance shoes, which pair you should buy first and how to take care of them! Purchase our Salsa Videos.

5. News Flash/Articles & More
Grace & Hugo Film a Spanish Television Pilot!
Recently Grace & Hugo were invited to film a Spanish Television Pilot for Channel 25. We spend all day filming in Spanish and English, dancing up a storm and teaching a student couple who met dancing salsa. We will let you know if the pilot gets picked up and when we can show you the segment in the future! Thanks to Cecelia Domeyko for choosing us to do your television pilot!
Congratulations To Our DWG Student of The Month!
Each month we get the difficult task to pick Student of The Month. This month it was an easy choice. Recently one of our students, Kiesha Cheeks, recommended "Student of the Month" be Miaesha Blackwell or Lauren Montgomery. I asked her to choose one but she just couldn't do it! The more I thought about who I should choose the more I thought about what Keisha wrote:
"I wanted to bring Miaesha Blackwell & Lauren Montgomery's dance assistance to your attention, for the next students of the month simply because they're so helpful to us in class. In the performance classes & other classes, their patience is well appreciated. There are many students who aren't humble when it comes to giving suggestions or tips on how to move this way or count that way. Some times there are too many leaders and it clashes. However, Miaesha & Lauren have a persuasiveness about them, that makes it ok for them to assist in the class. They're good leaders (who know the performance) Anyway...they are great women, great SALSA WARRIORS and I nominate these two ladies for student(s) of the month."
I was so impressed by what she wrote that this month's Student of the month is
Keisha Cheeks
For being thoughtful enough to nominate her peers, for always encouraging the instructors and working hard. Surprise & Congratulations Keisha! You are student of the month! You get to choose from a Free Private Class with Grace or Hug, free classes at Gardels for one month or a free pair of Salsa Sneakers. Check out who got the Bravo Award This month on the sidebar!
Sincerely, Grace, Hugo & The DWG Team.

8. Testimonials
Hi Ms. Grace,
I'm writing this letter to let you know that I 'm very grateful for all you and your team have done and the impact you have made on my son, Arthur. By being in your Latin Class at Chinquapin it made him a stronger individual and has given him a sense of confidence that you would not believe. Arthur 's grades were awesome this final quarter ! I know that being on the Latin Team along ,with my encouragement as well as ,yours and your assistants . It has shown Arthur the self-esteem ,that he had all along that he could and can do anything. And that he is a Leader in his own right! I can't Thank You enough and May God continue to Bless you and your Team of Assistants for what you are doing in the lives of young people, and what you have done in the life of my son. He will never forget this experience and hopes that he will have the opportunity to dance with you again. Or even perform again under your instruction. Blessings to all of you! ThankYou ,so Much Dancing with Grace and your Assistants, you are Outstanding!!!
Grateful for you,
Ms. Latresa Johnson , Parent
===================================================
Hi Grace,
Thank you very much for your individual lessons. I came to you with no experience whatsoever, and left with a set of moves I could use. As you know I was scared silly about dancing at my wedding (my now wife is Panamanian and just about everyone there was Latino and a connoisseur of dancing). When that beautiful song we chose started, I forgot everyone else was there. After a cross body lead and a couple of turns, I could hear some enthusiasm from the crowd and I felt pretty good. I am glad to have been able to enjoy that day with my new family and I look forward to learning more for my new wife.
Tony

9. Good Deeds
Grace and Hugo's Choice For Good Deeds of the Month are to help children who are being sold into sexual slavery. Read below:
Under a grant from the Department of Justice, Shared Hope International is aligning with ten newly funded Human Trafficking Task Forces across the United States to combat sex trafficking of domestic minors.
To read more about this great cause, to get involved or donate please go to www.sharedhope.org. Even $30 will provide for one month's care of a child taken from these horrible brothels where they are made to serve a pedophile's every whim. Please help and thank you for your kindness and generosity!
