Email from Grace's Last Workshop!
Dear Grace,
Just wanted to drop you a line to thank you and compliment you on the workshop Saturday.
I thought you explained and demonstrated things wonderfully. I also read the Workshop Notes and was impressed with the exercises suggested and the clarity and succinctness your summary of the essence of dance, movement, and balance.
Balance exercise #2 reminded me of an asana we do in Yoga called appropriately the "balancing pose" which is designed to improve balance. I'm confident that with practice my ability to spin and dance "gracefully" will be greatly improved now that I understand the Why and How.
Sincerely,
B

6. News Flash/Articles
DWG Students Win Salsa Contest at Club One
Congratulations to Anthony and Patricia who won the Beginners Dance Contest at Club One!
We are so proud of you both. Anthony and Patricia have been Dancing With Grace regulars at the Promenade and Gardels Dance Lessons for many months now.
Email from Anthony the day after the contest:
Thanks so much for all of your support and guidance. It has helped me tremendously in my developement as a salsero. I read my notes just before the competition. Written in big bold letters was the tip " Stay in the open position when dancing to a medium paced song. Hugo, I closed only once, and that was to do Grace's basic walk. It was fantastic. Patricia and I were having so much fun. Your style of teaching is so smooth. I love it. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to the performance class. I'll have to play catch-up. See you soon.
Anthony (Antonio) 1st Place :)
Email from Patricia:
Dear Hugo and Grace,
I just want to thank both of you for the opportunity to take private classes with you. My first private class was several months ago when I first started taking salsa classes on a regular basis. My brother allowed me to tag along with him to a private class.
More recently I took classes with my dance partner. I am convinced that the time and effort that you both put in with us has greatly enhanced our dancing skills, not only as partners, but individually as well. When we took classes with Grace, you gave us so much insight into dancing (with grace) together. You showed us simple moves that look good and corrected a few things that didn't look so good as well. You taught us that it is not important how many combinations you know, but how smoothly you can implement them.
And our class with Hugo was just icing on the cake. Hugo, you offered another perspective such as musicality and how to listen for certain nuances in the music. Additionally, you assisted me in perfecting my cross body lead and my turns. My partner and I learned so much in the few hours that we spent with the two of you.
Individually each of you adds a unique perspective to both partners. Being trained by both of you, multiplies the reward. I am so grateful for the individual attention you have given my partner and me. And I appreciate the hard work, dedication and joy you bring to salsa dancing.
Gracias,
Patricia Hall S.
Congratulations to Billy Hall (who was student of the month last month!) and Marlita Hill Who took 3rd place in the same contest! Marlita and Billly only practiced one time prior to dancing in the contest! Way to go! We are so proud of you!

10. Dance Can Make You Fall In Love! Read this testimonial
Email from our student Kelly:
Grace,
I am writing to say a special thank you to you. You have affected my life in a profound way and don't even know it!
Last year, I took some dance classes with you at Johns Hopkins. I was not a student but I read about your classes online and decided to give them a try. While doing the Merengue, you asked me if I was Dominican. You said something about the way I danced looked naturally Dominican...
I actually am half-Dominican (my father), though I was raised by my mother who never acknowledged that part of my heritage. Your comment made me feel more comfortable with a part of me I never really explored and I was really grateful for that.
More importantly, you made me love dancing, to be more confident in my abilities and to stop fearing salsa. Something about your technique (finding the one beat) made me think that if I could feel some rhythm in the music, I'd be able to dance to it.
I wasn't able to continue the lessons at Hopkins (time and money) but I have always remembered how much I admired you and learned from your classes. Last summer, I met my fiancé and we met-believe it or not- DANCING! We were at a party and he asked me to dance Merengue with him and the rest is history. He fondly remembers how, that night, we were dancing Bachata and I tried to do a move I learned in your class, dancing Bachata cheek to cheek! Apparently, I also learned from you some tips on how to flirt!
Anyway, we have been dancing almost every weekend (and sometimes weeknights) ever since. He has also made me love dancing and be more confident. I have learned how truly great dancing can be when you have the right partner! I hope that he gets to meet you. I have been talking to him for a year about your class and how I learned so much and how we need to take some classes for our wedding so we can do some serious salsa!
Thank you so much for being such an inspiration. You have no idea how you have inspired so many people...
With gratitude,
Kelly
