New Years Resolutions

I believe that you should all make resolutions you can keep so here are a few I am going to keep for sure!  It takes determination, I tell ya! (Grace)

"I resolve to lose 5 whole  ounces before January 2007!"

"I resolve to do the dishes less."

"I resolve to get more foot massages this year!"

"I resolve to continue to pray for my new corvette."

"I resolve to continue loving my husband more than anyone or anything in this world!"

What are your resolutions?  Email me! grace@dancingwithgrace.com

Shoe Repair

I get lots of questions about where to get dance shoes repaired.  I go to Boris at Security Square Shoe Repair.  He can put a new suede on the bottoms of your shoes and fix any problem you seem to have including cutting a heel down a bit.  I would ask for Boris and tell him that Grace sent you so you can get a small discount.  It should cost $20 for new suede (ladies) and up to $35 for guys. It costs $6.50-15.00 for a new heel if its worn down.

Shoe Tip: Anyone who tries to charge you over $35 to get new suede on the bottoms of your shoes is ripping you off.  You can also buy the suede from Cindy at the Promenade and take it to Boris for him to put it on, which should be cheaper.  The suede costs $10 from Cindy.

Directions: From I695, take Exit 17 West. The Security Mall will be to your right on the next light. The Security Square Shoe Repair is in front of Shoe City in the mall. The phone number is 410-277-3322

2006:  The Year of the Coquito

Each year Hugo and I have gotten into the habit of naming each year.  For example, the year before last year was The Year of the Pernil, which has a funny story behind it.  Pernil is a cut of meat that many latinos eat (pork).  As I was walking into Elsy and Antonio's apartment with the Pernil in my hands I tripped and lost balance in the snow and fell hard, but before falling I managed to set the meat down neatly so it was "safe" ha ha!  It became the Year of the Pernil.  This year is the Year of the Coquito.  Coquito is a famous drink that we latinos drink during holiday times, sort of like an eggnog with a serious punch of coconut rum and other ingredients.  If you want the smoothest, sweetest night cap of your life try this on for size and call me to let me know how you liked it.  We drink this so much, even my Sheena, Yasmin, Antonio, Elsy, Luis & Merrill are addicted!

Grace's Cherished Coquito Recipe

For a small batch: 2-3 people

 -  1 Egg
 -  1 can of coconut milk
 -  1 can of Sweetened Condensed
     Milk
 -  1.5 cups of Malibu Coconut Rum
 -  1 tablespoon of Cinnamon

For a larger batch just double the ingredients.

Mix well for 2-3 minutes.  Dont try to use real coconut, it will taste too chunky.  This should be a smooth and soft drink.  Hope you love it! Happy New Year!

What's Ahead?

Be on the look out for some big names doing workshops at Gardels this year!

1. DWG LOGO DESIGN FINALISTS! VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE!

To all of the contestants that entered our logo design contest we would like to say WOW! You are all very talented.  It was tough to narrow it down, but we tried to remain true to an elegant but cool salsa logo.  Some logos we received were more flamenco or ballroom but still done nicely.  We selected our favorites 6 logos. We will need your help to narrowing it down to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners so we need you to vote! Winners will be announced next month and presented the award at the DWG Party this year. We will be requesting your vote very soon!!! Be in the lookout for our Dancing With Grace logo poll.

5.  Ballet Classes By Nonci Tirado at the Promenade

Interested in better turn outs, better flexibility, & graceful movement? Nonci Tirado will be teaching an adult ballet class and is starting a sign up sheet.  This will be a basic class and is possibly going to be on Monday evenings in the future.  She is starting a sign up sheet for the class.  If you are interested please sign up.  I know I will (Grace).  Any of my instructors who take this will get extra credit for training time. Please email her at arielnonci@hotmail.com

6.  Performance Class Sign Up.

Are you interested in taking your dancing to a new level? We are now signing people up for a performance class session.   We will be having an information meeting about this type of class coming up soon.  We are looking at an April 2006 date for beginning this class so if you are not an intermediate dancer yet but are interested, you do have time to work on your dancing level before you enter this class.

During this session a group of students will learn a choreography that they will perform at the end of the session at a non-threatening location to start. Depending on how well the class does together, you may or may not be chosen to perform at some of the upcoming parties to be held by DWG. The class is responsible for training on a specific class evening and then getting together at least once a week without me to practice what you have learned in class. If you are interested please sign up. This is a 6 week session that costs $300.00 to non-DWG employees.  This class can also be taken by DWG instructors who are not yet in the performance arena for $150.00 and is worth 50 training hours. If you aren't ready to dedicate time and serious effort please do not take this session. You must be an Intermediate II-III to Advanced Dancer (capable of many intricate patterns and at least attempting double turns and footwork). You may have the opportunity to be hired by DWG as a performer if you do well enough. To sign up for this class email Grace's Assistant Elsybel. Be on the lookout for the date of this class. Once I have enough people signed up, I will announce the date and time of the meeting.
