5. December Cha-Cha-Cha Classes at Gardels!
Leslie & Dan Darlington are scheduled to come to
teach Cha-Cha-Cha classes in December 2005 so plan to get
your cha-cha groove on!
First Floor Demonstration: 7:30 p.m.
Beginners 8-9 p.m.
Intermediate 9-10 p.m.
Dan and Leslie
Darlington each studied ballroom and Latin dancing since the
early 1980's. Dan's training also includes swing dance;
Leslie's in classical dances (ballet, modern and jazz.)
When Dan moved to Baltimore from San Francisco in 1989, he
brought with him the freshness of West Coast Swing and his
peers were impressed with his dancing. He was encouraged to
teach these new moves and his lessons soon expanded to
include East Coast Swing and St. Louis Shag, then ballroom
dance. His teaching venues include: Swing on a Star
(Philadelphia Swing Dance Society) Glen Echo Spanish
Ballroom (Washington Swing Dance Council) Avalon Dance
Studio, the Potomac Swing Club, The Promenade Dance Sport,
and the Towson Dance Studio.
Leslie's dance and
performing experience started at age 6 and her classical
training extended into college, where she was a member of
the Towson University Dance Company. During a winter college
break, she auditioned for and was accepted as a dancer for a
one ring circus Circus America
that performed at the Nissan Center (former Capital Center).
After college, she performed with a modern dance troupe
called Movement Arts Parasol. During college, she
taught dance for Baltimore County Recreation and Parks,
Towson University Children's program and Lester Holmes
dance studio. Her students have ranged in age from 4 to 74.
Soon after learning ballroom dance she competed and taught.
Most recently, the
Darlingtons have taught at the Towson Dance Studio and the
Promenade Dance Sport in Baltimore. Collectively Dan and
Leslie have hundreds of hours of training, performances,
workshops, showcases, dinner shows, dance conventions and
teaching experiences under their belts.
For the past three
years, they have been members of "Capital Swing" a
competitive West Coast Swing dance team based in Bethesda,
Maryland. Capital Swing captured first place at "Swing
Fling" competition August 2002, third place
at"The Virginia State Open"
competition September 2002, first place MAD Jam, 2003
and first place at 2005 Swing Fling. Dan and Leslie are
gearing up for another team competition this coming fall.
Meanwhile, they are
available for demos and dance entertainment for corporate
and individual parties. They also teach privately from their
home in Catonsville, Maryland. For more information, visit
http://www.home.earthlink.net/~ldarlington
6. Performance Class Sign Up.
Are you interested in taking your dancing to a new level? We are now signing people up for a performance class session.
We will be having an information meeting about this type of
class coming up soon. We are looking at an April 2006
date for beginning this class so if you are not an
intermediate dancer yet but are interested, you do have time
to work on your dancing level before you enter this class.
During this session a group of students will learn a choreography that they will perform at the end of the session
at a non-threatening location to start. Depending on how well the class does together, you may or may not be chosen to perform at some of the upcoming parties to be held by DWG. The class is responsible for training on a specific class evening and then getting together at least once a week without me to practice what you have learned in class. If you are interested please sign up. This is a 6 week session that costs $300.00 to non-DWG employees.
This class can also be taken by DWG instructors who are not
yet in the performance arena for $150.00 and is worth 50
training hours. If you aren't ready to dedicate time and serious effort please do not take this session. You must be an Intermediate II-III to Advanced Dancer (capable of many intricate patterns and at least attempting double turns and footwork). You may have the opportunity to be hired by DWG as a performer if you do well enough. To sign up for this class email Grace's Assistant Elsybel. Be on the lookout for the date of this class. Once I have enough people signed up, I will announce the date and time
of the meeting.
