Andy is an icon so-to-speak in his beloved hometown of Mayaguez. When Hip-Hop came to Puerto Rico Andy took-on an interest in dancing, and everyone in his neighborhood wanted to see Andy dance because he could moonwalk, slide, and move like dancers on music videos. Before Andy ever dreamed of becoming a DJ he was a dancer.
Andy is a Dancer first, that is what allows him to have such a great instinct to pick and swap music. He loves to groove and make others feel the same way. In high school Andy got interested in salsa dancing, he would practice in front of his house with His friends, his mom would coach him, neighbors would watch, and no one would ever complained about the noise. As an Adult Andy first came to the Washington, DC Area in 1994 where he began to dance again at then popular venue Chelsea’s.
At Chelsea’s Andy introduced his dancing style and it was a hit because dancers never saw anyone truly enjoying themselves with his flavor and movements. Again Andy was well liked by all salseros and DJ Chris would always play his requests. Andy went back to his beloved home and decided to live in Puerto Rico’s capital the San Juan Metropolitan Area. Having experienced the Washington, DC nightlife scene Andy began going to different clubs to dance and hear music. It is then when he decided to become a Salsa DJ. Out of all the clubs in the San Juan Metropolitan Area it was at the Famous Coabey in Puerto Nuevo where he got interested in Cuban music. That interest in Cuban music is what inspired Andy to research and learn about the roots of the salsa music.
Andy sought out well-known musicologists Geño Acosta and Carlos Acosta who were his first teachers. At the beginning Andy would DJ for free and pleasure until his Yolanda Rios one day told him to start charging for his service because he had a unique ability to blend the music for crowds. That's when Andy did a major image make-up and began wearing talian hip clothing. Through the research Andy began to compile his collection of music and began to develop his DJ style of music selection. At the same time he was learning about the music he was also learning Cuban salsa dancing from the best dancers, and andy met with the most knowledgeable salsa music historians and musicologists on Saturdays at Viera Records store in San Juan.

In New York City, Andy is been promoted by Nancy Cruz, Izzy Rodriguez, Mike Pajella, and Harold Richardson.
But it must be said that Nancy Cruz is the person that went crazy when she realized the quality of dancing music DJ Andy plays in his performances. Andy’s style is mostly about old-school classics that appeal to professional dancers and salsa music collectors. The critical element that sets Andy apart is the fact that Andy is also a master Cuban and Puerto Rican salsa music dancer.
