Dance Your Way to Health and Happiness "A True Year's Resolution"
By Grace Badillo, President
Dancing With Grace Productions, Inc.
If you are anything like most people you probably already have a dusty New Year's Resolution list somewhere in the deep recesses of your mind. Becoming healthier and beginning that "oh so dreaded" exercise program is usually on that list, but why does it have to be so clinical? What is so appealing about huffing and puffing your calories away in a sweaty gym? Why can't you just dance your way to health as the mesmerizing joy makes you forget its great benefits!
Shake those Oreos off your hips with a smile on your face! Encourage your beauty and esteem by entertaining yourself away from television reality shows or annoying exercise tapes; and just as you hear the sounds of the beat, your lips curl to a smile you haven't seen in months!
Ah, Dance! I like to think of it as an expression of joy, love and communication through movement while the calories just melt away. Whether you are dancing alone, in the spirit or with your other half adding dance to your "True Year's Resolution" might just be what the doctor ordered after all.
So whether you're fighting off those pesky 5 pounds or battling with obesity, one hour of a basic dance class is stepping an average of 2.5 miles, and with the right instructor their encouragement can lift your spirits, fill you with laughter and help you forget some of those ordinary stresses of everyday life.
This Craze isn't only the social buzz of Baltimore's beating heart but a health craze that has hit Baltimore, not by storm, but with the gentle winds of Hispanic influence. One of these winds is called Dancing with Grace Productions, the leading Salsa Production Corporation in Maryland who teaches a variety of Latin dances specializing in salsa promoting health through the sheer enjoyment of movement.
Speaking from personal experience, I suffered chronic neck injuries from prior car accidents leaving me in and out of neck braces for over 5 years. As time passed so did my sizes. I went from a size 5-6 to 7-8 to 9-10, to 11-12 to 13-14 and finally to 15-16, and if you are anything like me it is 100% more difficult to release those pounds as they somehow hold on for dear life! So what did I do?
I Danced! It began once a week socially and slowly but surely I moved onto more and more safe movements designed specifically for the injured tailored by me as I am Grace from Dancing with Grace Productions. I went from a size 15 to an 8 in less than 6 months still eating rice, pork, ribs, bread & plantains never setting foot in a gym.
And Now Dancing with Grace Productions is teaching dance to Baltimore's best and our Baltimore babies encouraging not only adults but children of all colors, shapes and sizes to dance their way to health and happiness.
The best advice I can give is not to lose the child within you. Don't let yourself or your child hide behind the veil of inadequacy any longer! Don't be discouraged by shows like Dancing With The Stars but be encouraged that anyone can dance and know that living out a "True Year's Resolution" can be more than just about health but watering the seed of beauty hidden within us all.
